Stylish Blogger Award

by Whitney on February 9, 2011

I haven’t been at this blogging gig for long, so imagine my surprise at receiving not one, but two, Stylish Blogger Awards–Sofia’s Ideas and Scratch.Love got to me within a day of each other! I count each of their blogs among my favorites, and am honored that the respect is mutual. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of their acquaintance, Sofia blogs with heart about “Simplicity, Frugality, Frivolity . . . all with an Eco-Mentality, and Scratch.Love is replete with original recipes for delicious real food. Start with the meatballs.

Here is how it works, should you choose to participate:

  • Make a post linking back to the person who gave you the award.
  • Share 7 things about yourself.
  • Award 5 recently discovered bloggers with this award.
  • Contact these bloggers and let them know!

Without further ado, seven things about me–with a focus on the past, just so you know where I’m coming from:

  1. I had a city mouse/country mouse/beach mouse upbringing.
  2. My uncle died of AIDS when I was twelve.
  3. I had awesome internships in college that got me backstage at great concerts, thus tainting large arena shows forevermore.
  4. I credit/blame the family farm and my middle school gifted program for my obsessions with food and education reform.
  5. I belong to a family of artists and storytellers.
  6. I’ve known my husband over half my life.
  7. I had an emergency cesarean followed by two Hypnobabies VBACs.

And now . . . next in line for the Stylish Blogger Award, seven worthy young blogs with style and substance, da-da-da-da:

  1. Bits & Bobbish- Visiting this blog is like dipping in and out of conversation with an old friend. It could have been months ago, or maybe yesterday, but it always feels right.
  2. Creative Kitchen The recipes here are creative, tasty, and versatile. That’s stylish.
  3. The Little List She’s taking it slow, these days, but her dreamy images and poetic posts are worth the wait. Subscribe and just wait for a pleasant surprise in your feeder.
  4. Live Renewed Easily absorbed tips on going green without going broke.
  5. The Making Life Warm and familiar like Bits & Bobbish, penned by a “wife, mama, homemaker, crafter, bibliophile, and wanna-be photographer.” She’s also “passionate about alliteration,” which is fantastically fabulous.
  6. The Mom Uniform I’ve always been confident in my personal style, and have clung to the art of dressing even more since having kids, with less time for other means of creative expression. I think I’m in the minority, though, because most of my mom friends have trouble stretching beyond the basics, especially if dealing with altered body types. If you’re with them, go here.
  7. Tiny Twig Goes Out on a Limb Deep without being contrived, fun without being vapid. Stylish all around.

I sought to choose blogs that haven’t yet received this award, that are relatively small, and that are similarly aligned with the {:.}nesting season mission (look up and to your left.) I chose seven because one award dictated five and another fifteen. (*And I shared seven things about myself. And I like the number seven.)

*My high school English teacher always frowned upon the use of “and” at the beginning of a sentence, and even though higher level writing instruction okays the practice for effect, I still cringe a bit when I break the rule. Sorry, Mrs. H.)

Hypnobabies is such an amazing program. It really should be a household name. Let me know if you have any questions about my experience.

Happy Family Friday!

Congrats again, Whitney! I’m so excited for you! :)

I love finding out that we have more stuff in common – I was also in the gifted program, my favorite job was managing a recording studio in NYC (lots of perks!), and I alos come from a family of artists & storytellers! How cool is that! Yay!

Can’t wait to check out the other blogs you have listed here…

Thank you, Sofia! I loved the gifted program–amazing teachers that encouraged creativity and thinking outside the box–I hated to leave those classes . . .

So cool that we have even more in common–I hope to hear more about that studio gig! I think these little lists are so interesting, because the details of our lives really add richness and depth to the stories (written or visual) we share.
